the man behind the mission

Marc marcellinus

Marc Marcellinus is a Muay Thai veteran in Sabah having been involved in the sport for the last 20 years Coach Marc, as he is known to his students, has roughly 60 amateur and professional Muay Thai fights under his belt both locally and internationally. He is also a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu awarded by Anthony Perosh.

Having lost both his parents when he was 14 years old, Marc and his 7 siblings faced a tough childhood growing up. His grandfather taught him the martial art of Silat Kuntau as a child, and he later earned his black belt in Shotokan Karate in university before beginning his journey into Muay Thai.

“One of my coaches used to tell me that there is no use having a lot of knowledge if you aren’t able to pass it on. That inspires me to in turn hopefully inspire my students to be better versions of themselves. As a fighter, I always think of my Dad who was very firm about one thing: whatever is thrown at you, you never back down or give up. That has been the bottom line for me throughout my life, that even when the circumstances were hard or unfair, giving up was never an option. No matter how the odds are stacked against you, never back down from a fight. There is strength in never giving up.”

Marc has retired from ONE Fighting Championship and is currently the owner and head coach of Borneon Tiger Mixed Martial Arts.

Anthony Perosh is a coach and personal mentor to Coach Marc both inside and outside the ring. “I am blessed to call Anthony Perosh MY coach. He has taught, disciplined and inspired me more than he probably realises. I have grown as a person, a fighter and a teacher under his guidance. He is a huge reason that BTMMA is what it is today.” Coach Marc explains, “Anthony is tough! I would finish what I thought was a “good” sparring session and he would call out to me “Marc, come over here. These are the areas where you need to improve.” I am usually wearing the “coach hat” for my students so I appreciate it so much that Coach Anthony is doing that for me.”

"team my mum" fighters

"TEAM MY MUM' was created by Coach Marc in 2014, in support for a close friend's mother who was battling stage 4 lung cancer at the time. Believing that there was strength in numbers and standing together as a team, the slogan "NO ONE FIGHTS ALONE' was born as the team rallied together both in training and in life.

"TEAM MY MUM" is a team of young people who not only train to fight/compete but also pay special tribute to the mum's and families who have sacrificed and paved a way for them to get where they are." Coach Marc explains, "Our motto is "No-one fights alone" and i hope to instil strong family values and discipline in my students so that they approach each fight in and out of the ring with respect and confidence."
